In this webinar, we will talk about how to prevent the childhood mortality caused by Sickle Cell
Disease (SCD) in Sub-Saharan Africa by introducing the newborn screening programme for SCD.

Dr Charles Kiyaga: Director of Programs and Partnerships at the Department of Laboratory and Diagnostic Services, and the National Sickle Cell Program Coordinator at the Ministry of Health
Uganda. Dr Charles Kiyaga initiated and runs the National Sickle Cell Program in Uganda

Dr Lawrence Osei-Tutu: A specialist clinical paediatric haematologist-oncologist at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, Ghana. Dr Lawrence Osei-Tutu has established a
sickle cell clinic that offers hydroxyurea therapy to about 120 children, adolescents and adults,
under the Ghana-Novartis Hydroxyurea for Sickle Cell (Ahodwo) programme

Samuel Misiani Mbunya: The leader of the SCD advocacy pillars, the Ministry of Health,
